Jeju, South Korea
7 – 10 March 2019
The annual festival celebrated on Jeju Island off the southern coast of South Korea celebrates the arrival of spring. On the opening ceremony, a giant bonfire structure is set on fire in the belief that it will deliver the villagers’ prayers for good fortune and harvest, as well as protect them from evil. During the three-day event, there are also folk games, performances, fun contests, and activities including kite flying, horseback riding, and hiking. Admissions is free. The UNESCO World Natural Heritage Site of Jeju is an hour-flight from Seoul or Busan.
