The SUPPORT Foundation to present Khon Masked Dance Performance “Sueb Marga: The Adventures of Hanuman”
Tickets available from 12 August at all branches of ThaiTicketMajor
Back once again to thrill audiences is the annual khon masked dance performance by the SUPPORT Foundation of Her Majesty Queen Sirikit of Thailand. The 2019 performance is based on the Ramakien epic, episode of “Sueb Marga: The Adventures of Hanuman”, and will take place from 6 November to 5 December 2019 in the Main Auditorium, Thailand Cultural Centre.
The episode “Sueb Marga: The Adventures of Hanuman” is vibrant, lively and thought-provoking. It follows the adventures of Hanuman, commander of Rama’s simian army. When Rama leads his army across the sea to battle the demon army in the city of Longka, he assigns Hanuman to recce the route that is closely guarded by the demon army.
There are several new characters such as the mythical bird Sumpatee, Pii Sue Samut or the Sea Ogress, Surasa - the ogress guardian of anka and Paklan the Giant. Focus will also be on some extraordinary costumes such as the golden-faced Thotsakan or Ravana with a shoulder cloth, a hand garland on his right wrist, and a sandalwood fan that also becomes a dance prop. Another scene to look forward to is the beautiful Chui Chai dance sequence when the amorous Thotsakan goes into the garden to seduce Sita.
