FROM MONET TO KANDINSKY brings together some of the most respected artists in Western art history. Considered as the masters of modernism, selected works are displayed on large-scale in the 1,200-square-meter RCB Galleria in the Contemporary Art Space on the 2nd floor of River City Bangkok. This immersive exhibition is unique in its presentation. The latest digital technology in projection and surround sound transports visitors on a journey of discovery.
See the works of modernist masters Claude Monet, Edgar Degas, Paul Gaugin, Henri Rousseau, Henri Toulouse-Lautrec, Gustav Klimt, Paul Signac, Piet Mondrian, Amedeo Modigliani, Vincent van Gogh, Pierre August Renoir, Juan Gris, Paul Klee, Edward Munch, Kazimir Malevich and Wassily Kandinsky. Each of these artists rejected the styles of the past; embracing instead innovation and experimentation in form, materials and techniques in order to capture the tremendous upheavals of their time. The sequel exhibition, ITALIAN RENAISSANCE features the works of three Italian masters of the Renaissance : Da Vinci, Michelangelo and Raphael.
FROM MONET TO KANDINSKY is an exploration of the art world during the late 19th - the early 20th century when culture and society were going through a tumultuous revolution. Every year new inventions were brought to the daily life - gramophones, movie theaters, typewriters, electricity, airplanes, telephones, X-ray. At the same time the industrial revolution shocked the world with political overthrows and wars. In that time the new art movements like expressionism, abstract art, surrealism, and suprematism emerged. They were later united under a term “modernism”.
Modernist’s paintings often contain secret details, hidden from our initial viewing, encouraging us to investigate further. Finding new meaning in the chaos and nonsense around us. A hundred years ago the art of modernists was the first glimpse of the technological future. Today the paintings are seen in a new light.
River City Bangkok, as Asia’s premier antiques and arts center on the Chaophraya River is thrilled to present this unique and immersive exhibition of the world’s most renowned artists. Nineteen artists brought together in one place, the exhibition will inspire art enthusiasts and delight those new to the art world.
