As one of the rare venues for Nang Yai shadow play, Nang Yai Wat Khanon is a world Heritage Site recognized by UNESCO.
This high art originated in the Sukhothai period and thrived into the Ayutthaya period. In the reign of King Rama V, Nang Yai was adopted by the Abbot of Wat Khanon, where has been practiced to the present day.
Do not miss the performance which combines five fields of art - dancing, literature, speech, handicraft and music - per- formed by well-trained local youth. There are shows on weekends with freeadmission. Inside the temple, there is a traditional Thai house, which is a museum under the Royal Initiative of HRH Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn. On display are more than 300 original and complete Nang Yai.
